In your role as Director, Trusts & Estates, East Coast Region, your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Create new and continue to foster prior relationships with trust officers, estate attorneys, accountants, and financial professionals to drive new business to Bonhams.
  • Previous experience in the auction world, trusts & estates community, and/or art-related non-profit world desired.
  • Represent Bonhams at appropriate conferences and estate planning councils including speaking engagements for professional fiduciaries about the issues impacting the art market.
  • Work closely with senior specialists and heads of department to assist with the organization of multi-departmental appraisals and proposals for future business, including marketing coordinators
  • The ability to communicate effectively and prioritize scheduled deadlines.
  • Develop strategic relationships within the trusts and estates legal, fiduciary and banking communities in your designated geographical area with the aim of sourcing profitable business for the company from the region.
  • Actively pursue new business for the department through personal visits, letters and phone contact in your geographical area and ensure that Bonhams database of clients in the region receive regular communications from Bonhams.
  • Deliver sourcing targets to be reviewed on an annual basis.
  • Assist with all aspects of the setting up of exhibitions and/or sales within your designated region and provide practical and administrative assistance for all Bonhams activities within.
  • Regularly contact, entertain, visit, and engage with your established clients and potential prospects, with travel, as necessary.
  • Provide exceptional customer service including but not limited to handling inquiries and valuations via phone and email in a timely manner to addressing client complaints and post-consignment follow-up.


In addition to the tasks and responsibilities listed, you may be required to perform other duties as assigned by your Manager.


Required Skills

  • Proven experience in the specialty trusts and estates field and/or in the auction industry.
  • Strong client relationship development experience with ability to negotiate and broker deals.
  • Relationships within the trusts and estates community.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and networking skills.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized manager of client’s needs.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet strict scheduled deadlines.
  • Computer proficient, and able to work within our business enterprise software.
  • Ability to travel as necessary to achieve goals.
