Job Summary:


The Laboratory Technician position is Mayfield Village, Ohio, at BETA Laboratory, and will report to the Supervisor of Chemistry – Water. Duties to include sample bottle prep and login using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), performing gravimetric analysis, analytical testing for chemical properties and operating complex instruments.


This is an on-site position in Mayfield Village, Ohio.


Summary of Responsibilities, Lab Tech:


  • Understand and foster a Safety-First culture at BETA Laboratory by enhancing safety communications, focusing on near miss reporting, housekeeping, and controlling exposure to hazards.
  • Maintain and enhance a safe working environment, while achieving targeted production with high quality results.
  • Complete training and achieve qualification and proficiency in laboratory testing.
  • Complete training and maintain qualification for an appropriate storm duty role like Hazard Responder.
  • Interact with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and other instrument specific software applications, for the tracking, testing and reporting of various test results.
  • Be responsive to internal and external customer needs to ensure high quality results.
  • Complete laboratory testing in accordance with laboratory quality procedures.
  • Recognize conditions that affect accuracy and quality of work and be able to make the appropriate adjustments to ensure correct results.
  • Perform sample titrations and filtration, sample digestion, basic instrument troubleshooting, procedure adherence, and quality assurance/control etc.
  • Assist in work of higher classification as assigned and perform other similar and less skilled tasks.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, innovation, initiative, dependability, good judgment and work ethic.
  • Create an inclusive work environment where all team members feels like they belong and are enabled to do their best every day.
  • Train less experienced technicians, as assigned.
  • Prepare sample bottle sets and login samples.
  • Analyze samples for Oil and Grease, Alkalinity, pH, Conductivity and Turbidity.
  • Must have the ability to or learn to operate analytical instruments such as; TOC, IC, Discrete Analyzer, ICP and ICP-MS.

Summary of Responsibilities, Adv Lab Tech:


  • In addition to Lab Tech responsibilities, able to perform advanced instrument troubleshooting.
  • Assist with reviewing data and generating test reports.
  • Write, review and develop procedures base on recognized methods from EPA, ASTM, Standard Methods, etc.
  • Recognize conditions that affect accuracy and repeatability of methods and make the appropriate adjustments to ensure correct results.

Summary of Qualifications:


  • For a Lab Tech - Bachelor’s in Chemistry or related discipline and 0-3 years applicable experience, Associates Degree in Chemistry or related Science and 2-5 years of experience, OR a high school diploma or equivalent and 7 years of related experience.
  • For an Advanced Lab Tech - Bachelor’s in Chemistry or related science and 5 years applicable experience, Associates Degree in Chemistry or related Science and 7 years of experience, OR a high school diploma or equivalent and 10 years of related experience

Note: Related work experience is knowledge of lab operations or test methods, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools which would be used to perform test activities.


  • Work experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to quickly learn new tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Proven skill in both written and verbal communications.
  • Be able to make appropriate adjustments to ensure accuracy and correct results.
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities.
  • Available to work occasional overtime (less than 10%) to meet critical due dates or respond to urgent testing requests.
